Hummingbird corpses are being used in sex voodoo…
These tiny fliers are good omens! But they are also used in… SEX VOODOO!!!!
Hello hello, and welcome back to another fun article on Bird Fun Facts! The year is 2023, the month is April, and it is the unofficial ‘official hummingbird month’ of my blog - which is why there’s been so many posts related to these little guys lately.
This is the last article for this month, and today, I have some mildly creepy hummingbird fun facts!
Let’s start with a refresher:
1) Hummingbirds are among the smallest of birds in the world
Hummingbirds comprise the family Trochilidae, which belong to the order Apodiformes. Normally I wouldn’t bother sharing these long Latin words on my blog, BUT the order Apodiformes means, unfooted birds because hummingbirds are known to hover restlessly in the air! They rarely perch and pretty much never walk. It’s not accurate too say they are ‘unfooted’ (aka they have NO feet) but they definitely do not really use their feet.
Anyway they are among the smallest of birds, with most species measuring in the 7 to 12cm range. But the world’s smallest bird is a Bee Hummingbird, which measures only around 5cm!
2) This species is exclusively found in the Western Hemisphere
Sadly for us here in Asia, hummingbirds are found only in the Western Hemisphere, with almost half the species living in the "equatorial belt" between 10 degrees north and south of the equator.
Some of the countries in this list include Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, parts of the United States, Mexico and more.
3) Hummingbirds are believed to be harbingers of GOOD omens!!
Many cultures are just so utterly besotted by this bird!
The free spirit of this bird has led many cultures to believe this bird can cross the worldly boundaries - making it a messenger between the worlds of the living and the dead.
The wings of a hummingbird is also said to move in an infinity pattern (since they don’t really flap their wings but instead, kind of seem to vibrate and hover in air). This brings the message of eternity and, I suppose, eternal love and devotion.
Hummingbirds are also linked to ideas of reincarnation due to their habit of sleeping like a dead corpse every night and then reviving with the sunrise. Read this article to learn more!
And because of their speed and ability to fly backwards (they are the only bird in the world that is able to do this) they are seen as a symbol of second chances!
In Mexican culture especially, the hummingbird - known as the Huitzilopochtli - guided the Aztec's long migration to the Valley of Mexico. To this day, thus the hummingbird is the symbol of strength in life's struggle to elevate consciousness, and is a symbol for you to follow your dreams.
4) But… they are also believed to be potent Black Magic ingredients and have been used in love charms and sex voodoo toys!
Unfortunately, because they are so incredibly revered, those who have dark and desperate wishes have also taken to using the hummingbird as a sort of … talisman or totem perhaps, to make their dreams come true.
Let’s to learn about some bird sorcery, and the Black Market hummingbird love charm trade? Let’s go!
Hopelessly and desperately in love with a dashing young man who doesn’t even know you exist?? We’ve all been there. Here’s the latest fad that is … guaranteed to work… at … erm, something, I think.
Step 1: Catch a hummingbird.
Step 2: Kill it. :(((
Step 3: Wrap it in your underwear!
Step 4: Cover it with honey and spices - depending on what effect you’re looking for - and then it is ready for use!
Time to arouse passion in a lover and trap him under your witchy ways!!
In 2018, it was revealed that hummingbird corpses had overtaken the Mexican Black Market. Sold as love charms simply called chuparosas (the Spanish word for hummingbird) these corpses are used in conjunction with spells to trap a man.
In fact, there’s a witch in San Diego who casts spells to “trap a man” and “dominate him” so “he’ll always come back.”
She has a shop on San Ysidro Boulevard, one mile from the busiest Mexico border crossing in the United States.
But you don’t need to go to her shop for magic—you can join her livestream on YouTube. Like a wicked Martha Stewart creating potions instead of potpourri, she provides step-by-step instructions for her spells.
For obvious reasons, I am not going to link her actual shop or YouTube.
Ok, the ‘obvious’ reason is perhaps not that obvious. Some of you may think it’s because I don’t want you to buy hummingbird corpses to use on your own love lives. Erm, that’s a given - I don’t think anyone reading my blog would do that??
In reality, I don’t want to link to her stuff because I don’t want her to cast any Black Magic spells on me in retaliation. I am scared of this kinda stuff!
Showing only her arms and lower body on camera, she shields her identity as she swaddles a poor little Hummingbird corpse in paper, and then dips it in cinnamon spice. Covering it with the necessary spices, oils and perfumes will ensure he’ll be enslaved to your will.
There’s a pheromone so he’ll stay sexually attracted, a sleep oil so he’ll have sleepless nights, a dominating oil so you’ll dominate his thoughts… and the list goes on.
…. Creepy ….
It is, of course, a crime to buy or sell these love charms.
Multiple federal and international wildlife laws protect hummingbirds and most other feathered animals from being bought and sold.
However, voodoo love charms featuring the hummingbird is nothing new. We may all be familiar with stories of the rabbit’s foot (also a love charm) and the monkey’s paw (this one is more of an evil magic thing).
The dark world of animals as good-luck charm surely poses a serious threat to a group of animals already facing declines from habitat loss and climate change.
That’s all for today’s article! I hope you learned something new today (I definitely did, as I was writing this article).
If you are struggling with relationships, I don’t have any magic bird charms to sell you. And I’m not expert in love or relationship therapy, but I do want to say a few things.
If you’re feeling down and that you don’t deserve love: I think that we often are our own worst self-critics. You ARE an interesting and unique person (even if you don’t think you are) so please take time to consider your personal strengths, abilities, skills, and positive qualities. It could be your inquisitive nature, your kind soul, your amazing makeup and art skills, and even the fact that you are a great gamer! If you find it hard to do this, you could even ask a loved one what they would say they like most about you. <3
If you are constantly comparing yourself to others, especially those people in relationships: I feel that comparison is just unavoidable. I constantly compare myself to others, and in doing so, I put myself down and enter spirals of self-doubt and shame and sometimes even hate and resentment. :( I haven’t been able to stop comparing myself to others (and I also think it’s sometimes a good thing because I learn about myself and what I want to accomplish) but I try not to let myself undermine myself. Once you catch yourself in a negative self-comparison, redirect your thoughts to something else a little more constructive - maybe “I’m not as successful as her, but I can be, if I were to put in the hours for the next year.”
If you’re thinking to ‘settle’ with anyone who comes along, I think that’s understandable, because companionship is a basic human desire and we all want to be loved. However, the only thing I want to say is that sometimes, it may be better to be alone but at peace, rather than attached and anxious. Just make sure you aren’t settling for less than you deserve. :)
That’s all for today. Thanks for reading! Let’s end the article with a beautiful photo of a hummingbird to lift our spirits!
Again, you nailed it! Great information...uh....no, maybe the information was not great. The black magic stuff is terrible. However, your article is great. :)
Thanks for sharing this!!! the ending was a very kind touch and washed away a lot of the negative emotions that stirred from reading the former parts
